Columbia Pictures is developing a third Bad Boys and has hired Peter Craig to write the screenplay. Whatcha gonna do but fire up that old Inner Circle album?
According to THR, the original cast and crew haven’t signed until a story is in place, but the separate parties have expressed interest in returning once the details are “hammered out.” In other words, “How much?”
Reuniting the old crew may be nothing more than working out an acceptable budget. Will Smith may be one of the only major money stars left, still demanding $20 million per movie. Michael Bay bragged about earning $80 million to shoot the original Transformers after his share of the profits and toy merchandise. Though Martin Lawrence probably comes cheap these days.
As long as Columbia works out the high-priced salaries, I don’t see any reason why they won’t all film a number of car chases together again. As long as Bay gets to blow stuff up, Smith gets to act tough again, and Lawrence can say things like “my bad!”
Craig’s credits all deal with law enforcement. Southbound is a Matthew McConaughey flick on the way about a border patrol officer. Cartel centers on four security guards, but stalled when Sean Pean took a year off. Ben Affleck is directing The Town, a bank robber in a showdown with an FBI agent.
This might be reading too much into it but in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Sam Witwicky has a poster of Bad Boys on his wall. Egotistical? Of course it is. But then Sam goes nuts and starts writing all over the walls before throwing a 3 on the poster. A sign of the sequel? Or Bay attempting to be subtle?
