Yesterday Summit Entertainment released five official images of the Volturi, a powerful vampire coven in The Twilight Saga: New Moon. While those were simple character shots of the actors in costume, these three new images today are stills from the sequel in theaters November 20, 2009.
Each of them have blood-red eyes, which apparently means they feed on human and not animal blood. (I was chastised for not knowing this detail.) The director, Chris Weitz, told People Magazine, “They’re all hand-painted, specially manufactured contacts. They’re opaque red, almost like preying mantis eyes. You can’t really see into them. There’s something terribly off-putting about it.”
After the first few wolf pack stills, I’m surprised by the presence of shirts in these pictures. Check out all three below:

Jane (Dakota Fanning) leads Edward (Robert Pattinson), Bella (Kristen Stewart), and Alice (Ashley Greene) into the Volturi Italian stronghold. Weitz said, “She is very strange and very spooky in this movie. I think [Dakota] wanted to play an evil character for once.”
A Volturi guard, Demetri (Charlie Bewley), holds Alice gently by the throat in case she tries anything with those driving gloves.
The leader of the Volturi, Aro (Michael Sheen), sits on his throne next to Caius (Jamie Campbell Bower) and the dainty Alec (Cameron Bright), Jane’s twin.
