Last week, a few online journalists were lucky enough to visit the London set of the Clash of the Titans remake. While on location they were given the opportunity to fire questions at Sam Worthington, one of the fastest rising stars in Hollywood these days. They aren’t able to spill details about the remake yet, but did ask him about reactions to Avatar, his involvement in Terminator Salvation, and whether or not he’s up for Captain Nemo.
In the interview with Collider, Worthington admitted there were plot holes in the new Terminator. The actor takes partial responsibility for things like not hearing a ten ton robot approaching the gas station and other obvious mistakes. “It raises my game a bit, because now I feel like an idiot for not saying it to McG, you know?” he told the site.
As for his appearance in any future Terminator installments, Worthington said it’s doubtful. Be sure to check out Collider for the full interview.
The Avatar star said the mixed reactions to last week’s trailer were expected. “It wasn’t meant to be built for an Apple Mac. It’s built for IMAX. It’s built for 3D.” Its supporters, including me, have been screaming that for days.
Worthington also said releasing the short trailer the day before “Avatar Day” was a “tactical” decision by James Cameron. He explains the director’s goal was to bring people back to the cinema by creating innovative 3-D effects and a spectacle on screen. Lukewarm responses to the 2-minute computer clip followed the next day by amazed audiences after 16 3-D minutes were all apparently intended. A fan is more likely to go see it in the theater now, he argued.
That makes sense until you take into account the millions underwhelmed by the computer trailer versus the select groups of fans showing up for the mishandled Fox promotion. I guarantee you some people weren’t seeking out reactions to “Avatar Day” in order to gauge their own anticipation. That initial perception will stick around.
Finally, the actor laughed with MovieHole about McG’s comments earlier this month. The T4 director said he wanted Worthington for the role of Nemo in the new 20,000 Leagues under the Sea… without actually asking him. “We haven’t discussed it seriously. I wrote him an email and he wrote back saying ‘I don’t think you have these qualities, blah, blah..’ and I wrote back saying ‘it’s your job as a director to bring it out of me.’” Sounds like McG is just throwing names around, which is typical for the “say what fans want to hear” director. McG initially asked for Will Smith who turned it down without an official offer.
