Hancock 2 is Happening, Writers Hired

Published by Jeff Leins on: August 25th, 2009

Will Smith and Hancock director Peter Berg have both hinted at a possible sequel to the homeless superhero, and now the studio is officially moving forward with another installment.

According to THR, Columbia has hired Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara to write Hancock 2.  Both worked on the TV show “The Shield,” but neither have any feature film credits yet.

The details of the plot weren’t released, but Smith and Berg have both discussed bringing in a third god-like character that challenges the two introduced in the original.  I hope they’re calling on the Greek god of screenwriting because after that second half they’re going to need him.

Putting aside the obvious fact that the first was terrible, the story isn’t for a sequel doesn’t sound very appealing either.  The best parts involved Hancock as a drunken, swearing, reluctant hero and not the leather clad makeover towards the end.  Two more hours of a character saying and doing things politically correct sounds lame, even by comparison.
