More speculation fodder for the growing die-hard fans of Twilight. Some kid named Boo Boo Stewart told Access Hollywood something he wasn’t supposed to. Apparently the little blabbermouth plays Seth Clearwater in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which is currently shooting in Vancouver, so he might have a little insight into the continuing series. But not much.
In a poorly-produced interview by Access Hollywood, Stewart answered softball questions about being in the movie. The 15-year-old entertainer toured with Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers, so he’s perfect for this crowd.
Then he told the overexcited host that he had signed for three films. Count them out on your fingers, kids. This means the third movie (Eclipse), the fourth novel (Breaking Dawn), and an undisclosed film based on an unpublished, non-existent novel.
Summit Entertainment quickly denied Stewart’s claims. They released this statement: “We appreciate our young actor’s enthusiasm for the franchise and his role, but his comments about the number of films were unfortunately uninformed and not accurate.” The Summit representative confirmed Stewart was contractually obligated for three movies, but this is typical when signing onto an established franchise. So who are you going to believe? A teenager named Boo Boo or the studio in charge of the series?
Breaking Dawn hasn’t officially been announced by Summit Entertainment, but in May Robert Pattinson said he would be back for the fourth movie. Kristen Stewart signed a similar contract. Plus earlier reports confirmed Summit picked up the rights to all four novels by Stephenie Meyer. No word on when the fourth will go into production but the Winter Olympics will be underway in February 2010, the rumored slot for the sequel, so don’t count on that happening.
A fifth movie could happen, especially if the series continues to follow in the footsteps of the other successful novel adaptations: Harry Potter. Warner Bros is splitting J.K. Rowling’s seventh and final novel into two movies for creative and financial purposes, so Summit may very well be thinking the same. The producers have hinted at possible spin-offs before, so they’re clearly interested in milking this cash cow as long as Meyer and the fans will let them.
Do I even have to ask if Twilight fans want a fifth movie?
