Avatar Game Trailer and Toy Pics

Published by Jeff Leins on: August 21st, 2009

Yesterday, the Internet was reacting to the official teaser trailer for Avatar.  While a few people were blown away by the visuals, most seem underwhelmed after years of anticipation.  Ten years of development, the invention of new filmmaking capabilities, and other prominent directors calling it a “game changer” built to “Meh” messages on Twitter and web forum comparisons to Jar Jar Binks.

Today is “Avatar Day,” which means more glimpses at James Cameron’s 3-D motion capture epic.  The rest of the Fox hype machine chugs to life with video game trailers, toy pictures, and 16-minutes of video glory in select IMAX theaters.  Right now around the country crowds are taking in a real, three-dimensional look at the film.  Since I’m in one of the Avatar-deprived cities in America, I wasn’t able to attend, but I’ll have an “Avatar Day” reactions post later today.

In the meantime, check out the trailer for Ubisoft’s Avatar video game.  Now it looks like video game graphics and plays like them too!

SideShowToy.com unveiled their 30″ Amp Suit Maquettes, a scale version of the mechanized military equipment from the movie.  They’re incredibly detailed models, hand-painted and finished piece by piece.  If you want one of these custom toys though, you’re going to have to put away a lot of allowance money.  Each one costs $1199.99.  I can just imagine an uber geek somewhere deciding whether to pay rent or buy a collectible.

Oooo look, someone painted dirt on it. How realistic.
