Richard Kelly’s Donnie Darko is a highly-regarded cult classic and a personal favorite of mine. Even after the disaster that was Southland Tales, I felt obligated to give the writer/director another chance.
His latest film, The Box, is based on Richard Matheson’s “Button, Button” short story and is less ambitious in scope than Kelly’s last. It was also a “Twilight Zone” episode from 1986, but was expanded upon into this feature film due out in November 2009.
Updated: Apparently my opinion is an infringement on Warner Bros copyright. My review has been removed. Here come the spoilers…
Since we’re on the subject, Cameron Diaz (the lead actress) ruined the ending of her own movie at Comic-Con. She gave away the part where Frank Langella and friends are aliens from Mars testing the human protagonists with a moral dilemma. Maybe WB should be worrying about their actors spilling the beans instead.
