Robert Redford Conspires on Lincoln Film

Published by Jeff Leins on: August 18th, 2009

Abraham LincolnRobert Redford is directing The Conspirator, a film about a woman executed after the Lincoln assassination.  His most recent effort was the political film Lions for Lambs, which flopped at the box office.

Mary Surratt was the alleged conspirator convicted and hanged for aiding John Wilkes Booth, Lincoln’s murderer.  According to Variety, the project could go into production later this year.  Producers are discussing the cast and James McAvoy is being considered for one of the leads.

Steven Spielberg’s biopic of the sixteenth American president has been in development for years with Liam Neeson attached to star, but the film continues to be delayed even as the busy director/producer’s plate fills.

Pictured above is an actual photo taken the second President Abraham Lincoln was shot.  Talk about right place at the right wrong time…
