‘Twilight: Eclipse’ Adds Maria

Summit Entertainment has cast Catalina Sandino Moreno in the role of Maria for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.  The threeqeul starts filming next week in Vancouver under the direction of David Slade.

The studio must have simply Googled “Maria” because the Colombian actress played the lead in the Oscar-nominated Maria Full of Grace.  It was her first feature film.  She also played a significant role in Steven Soderbergh’s Che.

The principal actors (Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner) will all return for this installment, which focuses a bit more on backstories for the remaining vampire coven.  We learned earlier this week Eclipse will flash back to Rosalie Hale’s transformation, now there’s confirmation fans will see Jasper’s too.  The character Maria creates an army of newborn vampires and recruits Jasper, then a Confederate soldier, onto the undead squad.

I once dated a Maria and I’m convinced she also tried to turn me into a vampire soldier.  Now that’s just something I keep an eye out for.

The full-length theatrical trailer for The Twilight Saga: New Moon debuts this Friday in front of Summit’s teen comedy Bandslam.
