Underworld 4 is Coming… in 3-D

Published by Jeff Leins on August 10, 2009

UnderworldSony’s Screen Gems is moving forward with a fourth Underworld with plans to shoot the feature in 3-D.  ShocktilYouDrop has the scoop, which adds a tentative release date of January 21, 2011.

There’s no word yet on whether Michael Sheen or Bill Nighy will return the successful vampire/werewolf franchise.  Nor do we know if Kate Beckinsale is interested in coming back after taking the prequel off (she was replaced in the female lead by Rhona Mitra).  Beckinsale’s husband, Len Wiseman, directed the first two and produced the third, so presumably he’s involved in some capacity.

Unfortunately, we don’t know much.  We do know Screen Gems was pleased with the return on investment on Underwold: Rise of the Lycans.  The prequel pulled $91 million worldwide on a budget of $35M.

The third movie wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either.  Ideally for the fans and for the series, Kate would be back.  Hopefully we’ll get some more details soon.  What do you think?  Are you fiending for more Underworld?

The Underworld series are excellent. I can not wait for the fourth one to come out. I will be there once again the day it opens and probably like the ones I will return to see it multiple times in the theater.

It would be great if they brought back all the key actors/characters, like Beckingsale, Speedman, Mitra, Nighy and Sheen.... and then found a way to tie everything together. But they probably wouldn't do anything like that, since they want to do a movie that's "fresh" and different than the first three. Unfortunately, it may not be as good, without all the original actors. Too bad.

I think if kate beckingsale returns as selene and scott speedman for micheal it will make the sequel a whole lot better bring back the originals. rhona mitra did a great job in the prequel but kate beckingsale i amazing in the series.
