Tom Cruise’s 14-year-old son Connor Cruise is joining the cast of MGM’s Red Dawn remake along with Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas, and Edwin Hodge. Dan Bradley is making his feature film directorial debut for a release September 24, 2010.
Cruise will play Daryl, the son of the mayor in Spokane, which is being overrun by Chinese and Russian soldiers. He appeared as a younger version of Will Smith in 2008’s Seven Pounds, but only in still photographs so this will be his first true on-screen performance. Connor is the adopted son of Cruise and Nicole Kidman so biologically he lacks the gene to become a major star only to self-destruct on national television.
According to THR, Hutcherson (Journey to the Center of the Earth) will play Daryl’s friend Robert, a tech geek in the teenage insurgency. Lucas (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen) is Erica, the head cheerleader and girlfriend of Peck’s character (Lea Thompson played her in the original). Hodge is the popular star quarterback that helps start the resistance.
The four actors will play supporting roles with previously announced Chris Hemsworth (the new Thor), Josh Peck (The Wackness), and Adrianne Palicki (”Friday Night Lights”).
