‘Hurt Locker’ Director, Writer Reteam for ‘Triple Frontier’

Published by Jeff Leins on: August 10th, 2009

Mark Boal and Kathryn BigelowDirector Kathryn Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal are reteaming for Triple Frontier, an action adventure film under the producer wing of Charles Roven (The Dark Knight).  Boal wrote The Hurt Locker, which Bigelow directed, after being embedded with an Army bomb squad overseas.

Variety describes the new feature as a high-stakes ensemble project, but admits no logline has been released to summarize the plot for us.  The story will take place at the border intersection between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil, a hotbed for organized crime in South America.

To create an authentic atmosphere, Bigelow shot Hurt Locker in Jordan, so I wouldn’t put it past her to center the production somewhere in the continent.  It’s no fun if you’re not being shot at, right?

Ok, you got me.  I’ll admit the story is a roundabout way for me to plug The Hurt Locker one more time, which I absolutely loved.  Or if you’re a RottenTomatoes fan like myself, the film has an amazing 98% positive reviews.  I’ve seen it three times and still find new favorite scenes each time.  If you haven’t seen it yet, I recommend you seek it out.

What a difference one film makes.  A year ago I might have made a crack about K19: The Widowmaker or pointed out how she was dethroned as the most successful female director (Twilight knocked off Point Break), but now I’m excited for her next.
