Theatrical Trailer for ‘Where the Wild Things Are’

Published by Jeff Leins on: August 8th, 2009

The new trailer for Where the Wild Things Are is online and it’s glorious.  After months of delays and behind-the-scenes wrangling, Spike Jonze has put together one of the most moving trailers in recent memory. Maurice Sendak, author of the beloved children’s story, has given Jonze his blessing and serves as a producer on the film. The full release is out in October and I can’t wait!

The Caldecott Medal winner tells the story of Max (played here by newcomer Max Records), a disobedient little boy sent to bed without his supper, creates his own world — a forest inhabited by ferocious wild creatures that crown him as their ruler. Catherine Keener plays his mother and the creatures are voiced by James Gandolfini, Forest Whitaker, Paul Dano, Lauren Ambrose and Catherine O’Hara. The music was performed by Carter Burwell and Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the song in the trailer (”Wake Up”) was recorded by Arcade Fire.

Watch the trailer below or in high definition at Yahoo! Let the wild rumpus begin.

Where the Wild Things Are is out October 16, 2009.
