Writer/director/producer John Hughes suffered a heart attack and died Thursday morning while walking with his family in New York City, according to a spokeswoman. He was 59 years old.
Hughes directed many 80’s classics including Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and Planes, Trains & Automobiles.
He also wrote many of the early National Lampoon’s classics, Pretty in Pink, and Home Alone (1-3). Under the pen name Edmond Dantes, he contributed to the stories of Maid in Manhattan and Drillbit Taylor.
His influence on the world of film will be felt forever.
