Yes, thank God for Scott Silver here. He may not be the best by any means but at least he knows his way around writing a major motion picture a bit more than Bertolini. I get the feeling that Bertolini's technical elements will remain intact, but Silver was brought in to be the voice of reason and story. I think it might turn out tolerable if nothing else.

You're right about the early version but they could have just renamed one of the many grunts. Scott Silver recently did a rewrite so I hope you're right and drastic changes were made.

I too have read the script. BUT, it was an early script that I read (and I think you've read too). The script didn't even have a part for a female marine (Michelle Rodriguez). There wasn't even a character named Santos that I remembered so it's not like they just turned a male's role into a female for her. So obviously there's been some significant rewrites. I would think that if they've landed two stars the status of Eckhart and Rodriguez, they had to have inserted a bit more story since the version we've seen. I read a producer say they were taking the "Saving Private Ryan" approach, where amidst constant action from start to finish, there's moments of heart and humanity slipped in but it is more of a war film than an action film supposedly. Saving Private Ryan with aliens? Could actually be rather interesting.
