SDCC: Josh Brolin, Megan Fox on ‘Jonah Hex’

Published by Jeff Leins on: July 26th, 2009

Jonah HexOn Friday, during the Warner Bros presentation at the San Diego Comic-Con, the director and several of the stars of Jonah Hex held their own against a rowdy crowd of oddballs packed into Hall H.  Jimmy Hayward, Josh Brolin, Megan Fox, and Michael Fassbender all took the stage to promote the DC Comics adaptation.

The studio started by premiering a teaser trailer for the movie, which wrapped photography this month in time for a theatrical release August 6, 2010.  Reactions were positive and a fan even yelled, “Let’s see it again!” to the delight of Hayward and Brolin.

Brolin was especially enthusiastic about the project, having essentially hand-picked the director after he became attached to the title role.  He called the production a “fantasmagoria of insanity” and a circus before stressing it is a “different type of movie” with supernatural elements.

He’d almost had to be that committed to spend three hours a day in makeup transforming into the facially scarred anti-hero.  On the red carpet before the panel, Brolin told Collider and other outlets he added the time up to about 5.5 days becoming Jonah Hex in the makeup chair.  He also hinted to Cinematical about a possible Jonah Hex sequel in the future.

The rest of the panel was mostly goofing around with the captive audience.  Brolin was playful with the fans, teasing a man-child in a Robin costume and commenting on the weirdness of Bob Stencil from FirstShowing.  Most of the “questions” were addressed to Megan Fox, which wound up forming an awkward parade of nerds complimenting and even propositioning her.

Fox, who was only on set for 5 days, told the crowd she was jumping up and down backstage because she was so excited about the movie.  Then after expressing her enthusiasm, the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen actress remembered she was also there to promote Jennifer’s Body and quickly gave a half-hearted plug for her other non-robot project.

Overall, it sounded like a good time and hopefully we’ll get a look soon at the teaser trailer people are buzzing about.
