SDCC: Details, Video from ‘New Moon’ Press Conference

Published by Jeff Leins on July 23, 2009

New MoonThousands of Twilight fans have been camped out for 24 hours to get into Hall H at the San Diego Comic-Con for a panel on Summit Entertainment’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon.  The segment is just finishing on the west coast, but I swear I could hear the screaming from my desk here in Austin. Update: Details on the audience participation panel here.

Earlier this morning the members of the press had their chance to ask questions without sobbing into the microphone.  In attendance were the three stars of the sequel: Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and Robert Pattinson.  Though even the professionals weren’t able to get much out of the actors, especially a sleepy-looking Stewart with dyed black hair for her portrayal as Joan Jett in The Runaways.

For starters, none of them have seen the movie other than the clip scheduled for today’s raucous panel.  They briefly talked about filming the movie and Pattinson confirmed he has very few scenes and lines, in what he calls “apparitions” that seem to haunt Bella (played by Stewart) throughout the story.

Pattinson also addressed questions about fame and the vampire sensation saying he hopes he hasn’t changed other than walking with his head down on the street.  He said this sequel is a different kind of “animal” than the last in that they know what they’re dealing with.  Last year’s Comic-Con was an eye opener for the two young stars when they were greeted by a squealing audience.

Bob Stencil from FirstShowing.net was reprimanded for asking a personal question about Stewart and Pattinson’s off-screen chemistry.  It was amusing even if Summit wasn’t happy.

More later probably from the official panel when they meet their screaming fans. Below are some video clips from the conference in case you’re interested.  Hopefully they aren’t pulled by YouTube:
