Nicolas Cage is the ‘Green Hornet’ Villain

Published by Jeff Leins on: July 21st, 2009

A few days ago Seth Rogen assured fans his version of The Green Hornet wasn’t dead despite rumors claiming the opposite.  This was just days after Stephen Chow was officially off the project having stepped down from both the director’s chair and leaving his role as Kato, the Hornet’s faithful sidekick.  “We’re building sets,” Rogen told AICN.

Kato may be gone, but the rest of the cast is filling out.  Nicolas Cage is in talks to play a gangster villain in the action comedy, according to Variety.  Remember when he won an Oscar?  Yeah, me neither.

Cameron Diaz is also negotiating to play a reporter and Rogen’s love interest in the movie.  Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) is directing for a July 9, 2010 release.

What is going on?  Columbia Pictures is spending a lot of money for Seth Rogen to turn a 30’s radio series into an action-packed comedy no one cares about.  Then they hired Cameron Diaz and Nicolas “What Happened to Me?” Cage to co-star in a wild Michel Gondry film.  This will either be the wackiest comedy of next summer or the biggest joke since The Wicker Man.  I hope they get Jean-Claude Van Damme for Kato and really make this thing interesting.
