Morgan Freeman is in discussions to star alongside Bruce Willis in Red, an espionage thriller at Summit Entertainment.
“Red” is a three-issue comic book miniseries centered on a former black ops CIA agent living a quiet life of seclusion. His only contact with the outside world is with his former government handler and letters to his niece. When a newly appointed Director of the CIA learns of his existence, he orders an assassination on the retired agent. He calls the Agency and informs them his status has gone from green to red before going on the hunt.
The Variety story does not include Freeman’s role, but all signs point to Michael Beesley, the CIA Director who orders the hit. The news comes on the same day the trade paper ran a story about DC Comics stepping up their efforts to bring more of their properties to the big screen.
The project is being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura (G.I. Joe, Transformers). Brothers Jon and Erich Hoeber (Whiteout and the upcoming adaptation of the game Battleship) are writing the script.
