Dimension Remaking ‘Werewolf in London’

Published by Jeff Leins on June 29, 2009

An American Werewolf in LondonDimension Film is developing a remake of John Landis’ An American Werewolf in London.  Landis, who wrote and directed the original, sold the rights in exchange for an executive producer credit and the possibility of consulting on the redo.

In the original, two American college students are attacked by a mythical werewolf.  One of them becomes a werewolf himself and starts terrorizing London.  Rick Baker won the first “Best Makeup” Oscar in 1982 for his work on the creature creation.  In his career, Baker was nominated ten times and won 6 awards in the category.

Bloody-Disgusting heard the remake news first and it was later confirmed by the trade papers.  The studio hopes to find a writer who will keep the comedy elements of the film.  The new werewolf pic is another in a long list of vampire/wolf movies dominating movie screens recently, including The Twilight Saga: New Moon (which has both).

Landis contributed several notable films in the 80s, but has since declined into a much smaller role in Hollywood.  Aside from shooting a few episodes of “Psych” for USA, he hasn’t done much of anything recently.  He has only resurfaced of late due to this remake and his involvement with the Michael Jackson videos “Thriller” and “Black or White.”
