Chris Pine and Denzel Washington are ‘Unstoppable’

Published by Jeff Leins on: June 4th, 2009

Chris PineMonths ago most people couldn’t have told you who Chris Pine was.  Then Star Trek hit last month rocketing the new Captain Kirk into stardom in more ways than one.  Since then it seems he’s been bombarded with offers and rumored for even more franchises like the Green Lantern.  He’s finally settled on his follow-up movie.

After meeting with Denzel Washington and director Tony Scott on Tuesday, Chris Pine will co-star in Unstoppable.  It will be Washington and Scott’s quick return to train-based thrillers after their remake of The Taking of Pelham 123 pulls into theaters next week.  Pine plays a new conductor replacing the veteran Denzel who both are racing to stop a runaway train full of toxic chemicals.  Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard) wrote the screenplay.

I would have rather seen Pine take another lead role where he wasn’t relying on an ensemble or a two-time Oscar winner to help him along.  Then again, thousands of women adore him and for me it’s only hundreds, so he must be doing something right.  I know this isn’t a celebrity gossip blog, but I wanted to point out Pine just recently dumped Audrina Patridge, a cast member on the fake reality show “The Hills.”  What a bad ass.  “Hit the road, sister, I’ve got the number one movie in America.”  Ok, back to real news…
