Concept Art for James Cameron’s Avatar

Published by Jeff Leins on: May 28th, 2009

The dedicated 3-D website MarketSaw received two very awesome concept art images for James Cameron’s next movie, Avatar.  With Fox’s permission they debuted a full look at the power suit used to navigate the world of Pandora, the film’s vibrant setting.  This is similar to the partial view that was leaked a few days ago from an inside source.  The other image is of a futuristic helicopter (possibly a Dragon Gunship) being chased by several alien beasts.  Both pictures will be included in The Art of Avatar, a compilation of all the design work that went into the big budget blockbuster and a foreword from director Peter Jackson.

Countless directors have been invited and returned awestruck by the technology being used for this movie.  Cameron stepped up special effects with the Terminator movies and Titanic, but he may be ushering in the new wave of 3-D with the stereoscopic method used on set.  I just wish Fox would start putting out some official images or a trailer.  I know Cameron is picky about what’s released, but how about some real marketing materials?

Avatar will be out December 18, 2009 and in IMAX theaters for at least a three month run.
