As former Blockbuster Video employee as well, I too will do a Dance Of Joy™ the moment they go under. It has absolutely nothing to do with people losing their jobs, and EVERYTHING to do with *how* they treat said employees. I can certainly confirm it's a denigrating job that instead of being honest with their customers forces its store-level employees to confront their customers as opposed to working with them, and act pseudo-swarmy to them (addressing them by first names, which as a customer I find reprehensible).

...and the irony about adding merchandising into their stores is that they've already tried it around 1996/1997, to disastrous result. I'm not sure what they thing 12 years will have changed, but I can say it'll be nothing - I haven't entered a physical DVD rental location in over 5 years, having switched to Netfliks *years* ago and using eBay, half.com, and evn Netflix's DVD store for my used DVD purchases.

The only thing that might give Bockbuster a change is stocking Adult Movies (that would get me back into the stores ;-) but even dying their relationship with Disney is more important than what the customers want... which is to wank it.

Blockbuster's biggest problem is its confrontational relationship with its customers. Over and over again, Blockbuster has misrepresented its on-line service and used sneaky and underhanded techniques to cheat customers out of the service they signed up for. If Blockbuster were to approach its customers in an honest and fair way and cultivate their customers, they might find they would actually be more profitable. Blockbuster has very poor customer service and treats customers like they are the enemy. I believe that could be the cause of their ultimate demise.

Wow this really sucks!
i rent from blockbuster every tuesday
for years now.

I would never use netflicks people actually steal my mail once in awhile, and i'm sure i would be held responsible for all movies that get stolen
And waiting days to get a movie when i can
just drive for five minutes and pick it up is ridiculus! are people really that lazy these days that they can't get off their fat ass and drive two miles? everything has to be done online ??? it sickens me to no end.

At this point, Blockbuster is just like an ex-boyfriend/girlfriend that keeps calling with new ideas/intentions to get back together when you've already told them 'no' each and every time.

[...] The jeers have been deafening. Surely this is the kind of tat available anywhere? Doesn’t Asda already do more replica lightsabers and High School Musical pom-poms than you can shake a stick at? [...]

Rosemarie,
Just because I'm a former employee doesn't mean I was fired. Way to jump to conclusions.
Haha, "smug."

Rosemarie, I have to disagree. I would love to see Walmart have its own demise. It is a terrible company and there is way too much proof of that and they employ many more than 60,000 people. I don't want to see people lose jobs either but Wal-Mart is one of the most rasict, sexist, and al around destructive companies around. You can't even mention the word Union in a Wal-Mart without first getting a warning then if you mention it again you are fired. They have a whole book they give to managers on how to keep the store union free. Thats just sickening. So I do think wishing the demise of a company is a good thing at times. I love Blockbuster though, so I think it would be sad if it went under, but also you can't really judge a company and its intentions until you work for them.

Being happy for the demise of a company that employes 60,000 people is disgusting. You probably were a terrible employee at Blockbuster. You sure are smug. That's what probably got you fired.
