Pattinson Confirms ‘Breaking Dawn’ Movie

Published by Jeff Leins on: May 19th, 2009

Robert Pattinson, the actor who plays Edward in the wildly popular Twilight franchise, made a scheduled appearance this week at the Cannes Film Festival where he confirmed rumors of a fourth installment.

In April, sources claimed Summit Entertainment was already working on an adaptation of the fourth and final novel, Breaking Dawn.  Executives for the mini-major studio denied there were any plans for another film, but a $380 million worldwide gross for the first film and another $146.6 million in DVD sales would suggest a logical continuation at some point.  Besides, Summit already purchased the rights for all four from author Stephenie Meyer.

Pattinson told the Hollywood Reporter he doesn’t know when Breaking Dawn will happen due to his increasingly busy schedule, but did assure his die hard legion of fans he will be return for the fourth movie.  Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg and lead actress Kristen Stewart are also expected back.

The brooding 23-year-old actor stopped at the festival on his way to Italy for the last four days of shooting on The Twilight Saga: New Moon (due out November 20, 2009).  He’ll fly back to Vancouver in October to start production on the third movie, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse with director David Slade (in theaters June 30, 2010).  In between vampire commitments, Pattinson will shoot a small drama titled Remember Me.
