Earlier this month Paramount and Michael Bay unveiled some Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen footage at the ShoWest convention in Las Vegas. The reactions from around the web were mostly underwhelmed at the time, but having seen the footage it isn’t so bad. At least Bay is trying to have personal moments and not just clashing metal robots for two and a half hours.
The scene shows Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) telling Bumblebee he’s leaving for college while Mikaela (Megan Fox) changes into a dress outside. In the background construction workers repair the Witwicky household that has sustained considerable damage. The proceeding montage shows rapid fire clips from the rest of the movie, including the first official (yet disappointingly partial) view of Devastator, the massive combination of seven different “Constructicon” robots.
The video has been removed. Here is Bay’s reason, posted on his official forums:
The Showest footage was pulled down because it was just a 12-hour thing.
I just wanted the fans to get a taste of what we have been making for a year and a half because we have been so quiet. The piece was cut about a month ago for this Showest thing I accepted this past month – so as you can see many of the shots were far from being finished renders. This dinky little site received over 1,500,000 hits and 550,000 downloads in this short time. Anyway the trailer is being printed today and coming out on Wolverine and Star Trek. 64 days left!
