Steven Spielberg is so well respected in Hollywood that it is apparently news when he hands out approval. Recently Michael Bay announced Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will run almost two and a half hours. According to Bay’s blog, he has shown the overlong movie to Spielberg, who executive produced under the DreamWorks banner, and things went well.
Steven Spielberg sat next to me in a big 100 person theater at Sony today. There were 98 empty seats. The lights came up after we just watched my cut of Revenge of the Fallen. He turned to me and said “It’s awesome”.
I can just imagine the two directors sitting there together, sharing a bucket of popcorn, and telling each other, “This movie we made is great!” I’m surprised a room of that size could fit Bay’s ego and another person, but he seems to stand behind his story.
Bay continued by saying, “He felt this movie was better than the first – and probably my best, who knows – at this point in a movie you start to lose your objectivity.” It’s even better than Pearl Harbor? This is big news! It would almost have to be better than the original, though if anyone is capable of royally screwing it up, 80s hair/leather jacket guy is your man.
According to him, the movie isn’t done yet and they’re in a crunch just 60 days before its release to finish editing and throwing in all the special effects.
Bay later confirmed that a new trailer would be premiering May 1 in front of X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
