“Stone Cold” Steve Austin, a former WWE wrestler, has joined Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables, expanding the already giant list of action hero actors.
“Stone Cold” will appear alongside Sly, Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Forest Whitaker, Dolph Lundgren, Danny Trejo, ultimate fighting veteran Randy Couture, and a possible cameo from Arnold Schwarzenegger. The story is about a team of “expendable” mercenaries on an impossible mission to overthrow a South American dictator.
Charisma Carpenter has also been added to the cast and, according to TV Guide, she will play Jason Statham’s girlfriend in the movie.
It sounds like the cast is coming together before shooting on Expendables starts in April. I have to be honest though, I didn’t even know Steve Austin was still alive. I heard he was in a few movies after he left wrestling, but if someone asked me earlier today “Hey, is Stone Cold still breathing?” I probably wouldn’t know the answer. “He’s probably as cold as a… rock… or… a brick or something.”
I originally predicted The Rock was going to join this thing (you know, class this up a little), but he’s busy doing Disney movies apparently.
