At WonderCon this weekend in San Francisco, McG worked the crowd of convention fans with exciting news about Terminator Salvation. If you’d rather skip the rundown and watch the video, check out parts one, two, and three on YouTube and hopefully they aren’t pulled from the site.
He started by acknowledging how he’s pumped about Watchmen this weekend, a seemingly genuine compliment despite the obvious WB ties between the two. This was also in the same panel as Star Trek, which went unmentioned by the director. McG confirmed there will be a new Terminator trailer playing this weekend in front of Watchmen prints (the YouTube footage doesn’t show it).
McG expanded on the rumors of the movie’s official rating. The MPAA has yet to make a ruling on it, but according to McG he is fighting for an R-rating. One scene is under fire from WB where Moon Bloodgood appears topless in the rain. The overwhelmingly male audience seemed to enjoy that and yelled in support of its inclusion. We’ll see whether or not they keep it in. PG-13 movies generally make much more than R-rated flicks and Warners is of course in the business of making money. The MPAA rarely lets bare breasts go by without slapping an R on it for nudity, no matter how much over-the-top violence surrounds it. Ahh, double standards. From the sound of it, the scene will be cut and it will be PG-13.
Finally, McG said he’s working on having an Arnold Schwarzenegger cameo in some capacity in the movie. The governor of California has been battling economic meltdowns, but found time to watch the finished product recently. The discussion before was to digitally mold his face onto a T-800 model. Linda Hamilton (the original Sarah Connor) is also being considered to do voice over in the opening sequence.
Below is a three-poster compilation released on Yahoo! advertising the movie’s release on May 21, 2009.
