Harrison Ford is teaming with Brendan Fraser for his next movie, an untitled medical drama from new production company CBS Films. This will be the first time the real Indy has worked with Indiana Jones wanna-be Brendan “Mummy Slayer” Fraser.
Fraser will play a father who recruits the help of a medical researcher played by Ford. The script is inspired by the true story of John F. Crowley (from the novel The Cure: How a Father Raised $100 Million – And Bucked the Medical Establishment – In a Quest to Save His Children.) As the lengthy title suggests, Crowley created his own experimental biotech firm to find a cure for his two children, who were diagnosed with the fatal neuromuscular disorder, Pompe Disease. Ford acquired the rights to the story in June 2008 and will serve as executive producer. The working title of the film is simply Crowley.
I can’t imagine Brendan Fraser being any good as a desperate father. He’s mostly done light family comedies and knock off adventures. He’s “George of the Jungle,” need I say more? But apparently Ford saw something in Fraser’s imitation of him for the Mummy movies and here they are together. Maybe on set Ford will take him aside and talk some sense into him.
Tom Vaughan (What Happens in Vegas…) is directing. Filming begins in April.
