Director/writer/producer Jason Reitman seems to be a busy man these days. I guess directing the critically-acclaimed Thank You for Smoking and the Oscar-nominated Juno gave him plenty of new opportunities.
Among other things Reitman is prepping a romantic comedy called The Wedding about a young man so infatuated with a 30-something woman that he crashes her big day. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jesse Eisenberg and Anna Friel are attached in the roles.
Eisenberg is best known for his breakout part in The Squid and the Whale and is appearing in Adventureland next year with Twilight star Kristen Stewart. Friel was the female lead in the now canceled “Pushing Daisies” and is on screen next year in Will Ferrell’s Land of the Lost.
Apparently The Wedding hasn’t been picked up by a studio or financier, but it should be any day now. A pre-packaged hit directed by Jason Reitman? Sign me up.
Reitman is also producing Jennifer’s Body, the next script from Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody. He has also picked up producing and possibly directing duties on a comedy called Bonzai Shadowhands written by “The Office” star Rainn Wilson. The name alone should be enough, but for those interested it’s about a once-great ninja who now lives a life of mediocrity.
His next directing project, however, is Up in the Air starring George Clooney.
Like I said, busy man. But a talented director who hopefully stays consistently great.
