Rob Zombie to Direct Halloween Sequel

Published by Jeff Leins on: December 16th, 2008

Dimension Films has signed rocker turned director Rob Zombie for a sequel to his 2007 remake/prequel/reboot Halloween.

The second installment in the new series, simply called H2, will not be a redo of Halloween II.  Nor will it have any relation to Halloween H20, the seventh in the original franchise. It will be a different movie where a guy in a mask kills a lot of people.  The tagline for the 1981 movie was “the nightmare isn’t over.”  That sounds perfect for a second Rob Zombie Halloween.

Though I may have been one of the few who mildly enjoyed his “re-imagining,” 83% of the nation’s top critics disagreed with me about the origin story.  The general concensus was “no one cares why Michael Myer’s started stabbing people, he just stabs people.”  Fair enough.

Variety says Zombie hopes to rush the movie into production in March for a possible October 2009 release.  It will pick up right after the 2007 Halloween left off.

Last year the director had no interest in making another Halloween movie.  What changed, Mr. Zombie?

“I was so burned out. (But) I took a long break, made a record and I got excited again.”
