It seems every franchise is being rebooted these days and Jason Voorhees is the latest character getting a second chance. After 11 films ranging from the 1980 original to Jason in Hell, Jason in space, and finally Jason versus Freddy, the series is starting all over again. Who better to retread the horror classic than my best friend/producer Michael Bay?
Directing is Marcus Nispel, who also filmed the reboot of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies. Actually of the four movies he’s directed for theaters and television, not a single one is based on original material.
I’d like to say that pretty much says it all, but there’s more. The movie will actually take pieces of the first three movies and combine them into this plot. It won’t be an origin story, but will “give the audience a sense of the history.” Like “where did the mask come from?” and… actually that’s about it.
It shot here in Austin, but I guess I missed my chance to wander around in the woods. Luckily I have this teaser trailer to show me what the dark looks like and what a lot of unrecognizable actors look like carrying flashlights.
Friday the 13th is scheduled for February 13, 2009.
