‘Inside Man 2′ Moving Ahead

Published by Jeff Leins on: September 8th, 2008

Over the weekend at the Toronto Film Festival, Spike Lee confirmed that Universal is moving ahead with Inside Man 2, obviously a sequel to the successful and well-made heist movie Inside Man.

Lee will return to direct, and says Clive Owen and Denzel Washington are interested in reprising their roles as the robber and detective respectively.  No word if Jodie Foster, Willem Dafoe, Christopher Plummer, or Chiwetel Ejiofor will be back.

Terry George (Hotel Rwanda) will write the screenplay, replacing Russell Gewirtz (Righteous Kill).

The original was about a bank heist in New York City that resulted in a hostage stand-off and a great, complicated story.  The sequel will pick up those characters, but not continue the same story.  Instead, it will be a “new high pressure situation,” according to Spike Lee.

I really enjoyed this movie, a fond memory I have with my Dad.  If George’s script is as good as Gewirtz’s, this will be a sequel worthy of its A-list talent.

The original made $175 million worldwide and is Lee’s biggest opening weekend to date.
