Remember that Star Wars cartoon movie last month that basically no one liked? How about a healthy dosage of that garbage every week?
Star Wars: The Clone Wars is scheduled to start on the Cartoon Network on Friday, October 3. The series premiere will be a “special one-hour presentation” of two 30-minute episodes. “Special” meaning it’s usually one new 30-minute show, not “special” as in original or important.
The show will then run every Friday with the first half-hour a rerun of last week and then a premiere of the new episode. It would have made more sense to run them on Saturday morning when the kids are still eating Fruit Loops, but apparently they’re going with 9pm on Fridays. I guess they’re playing to their core audience though, super nerds who have nothing better to do on Friday nights.
Other than the rabid fan base, the collective outcry a few weeks ago was “Why?” and “Make it stop!” Unfortunately, George Lucas has already said they’re planning 100 episodes and as of a year ago 39 were already completed.
We’ll have to wait and see if the TV show bombs as horribly as the film. After three weekends, the movie continues to fall in the charts and has only made $30.4 million. Just to put that in perspective Star Wars Episode I – The Phantom Menace, considered the worst of the six true Star Wars episodes, made around that much in its first day… on a Wednesday… in 1999.
