‘Max Payne’ Trailer Sheds Doubt on Bad Movie

Published by Jeff Leins on: August 29th, 2008

The new, full-length trailer for Max Payne shows a movie that may not suck, a complete surprise considering the endless streak of bad video game movies.

Mark Wahlberg has been touting this movie for months now, even before the impressive footage shown at Comic-Con. He actually told MTV with a straight face that Max Payne was the “most complex character” he’s ever played. Who knows if Marky Mark is telling the truth at this point because he sort of lobbied for The Happening and that was the worst movie of the year.

Speaking of which, Shyamalan apparently told Wahlberg, “After The Happening, you can never hold a gun again. You know that, right?” Wahlberg asked what any sane person would want to know, “Are you crazy?” And M. Night said, “I’m serious, don’t ever hold a gun again.” Quite an ego for a guy who is declining into obscurity.

But of course he held a gun again and the incredible Payne trailer makes me think this might actually be a good movie. Exercise cautious optimism when geeking out to the video below. By the way, the song in the trailer is Marilyn Manson’s “If I Was Your Vampire.”

Max Payne is out Oct. 17, 2008.
