Danny DeVito will write and direct an adaptation of the young adult novel “The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle,” with Morgan Freeman, Pierce Brosnan, and Saoirse Ronan starring.
Lil’ 14-year-old Oscar nominee Ronan will star as a teen who makes the boat trip from England to America in 1832. Brosnan will play the “ruthless captain” and Freeman will play the same role he’s played his entire career, the wise old man. DeVito won’t be in it.
The 5-foot DeVito has directed six feature films. His most famous would probably be 2002’s Death to Smoochy. But this won’t be the same edgy, dark humor. Confessions is a movie for kids, like his 1996 movie Matilda, and it will be shooting for a PG rating.
It sucks he won’t be doing a comedy movie, something he knows a little about. Instead it’ll be a movie for little girls?! I guess this goes without saying, but count me in.
In other DeVito news, FX has picked up 39 more episodes of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” probably the funniest show on TV right now.
