‘The Spirit’ Gets Christmas Release

Published by Jeff Leins on: May 12th, 2008

Lionsgate has moved the release date up for Frank Miller’s directorial debut The Spirit from January 16 to December 25.

This is definitely a good sign. Instead of rolling it out in the slow month of January where bad movies go to die, Lionsgate has slid it back three weeks into a peak time at the theaters, showing confidence in its success.

It also means the movie will compete with two family films, Disney’s comedy Bedtime Stories and the book adaptation Marley and Me. Paramount recently vacated the spot, moving Star Trek back into summer 2009.

The graphic novel adaptation looks a whole lot like Sin City, also from Miller. Here’s a magazine cover below showing Samuel L. Jackson in character as “The Octopus” for the movie.
