RoboCop Reboot?

Published by Jeff Leins on March 17, 2008

AICN recently pointed out a press release by MGM saying they were going to focus on their major franchises, including James Bond (Quantum of Solace), Thomas Crown Affair 2 (previously called The Topkapi Affair), and Sly Stallone’s Death Wish remake.

The press release also mentions RoboCop as something MGM wants to turn their attention to.

Since it only lists it with all the others, there isn’t much information on what is being planned. Is it a remake? A reboot? Another sequel? Who cares?

Honestly, people are already up in robot arms about this idea, but does anyone really care?

The franchise doesn’t hold up. Go back and watch the original movie. It’s 20 years old now. It’s all 80’s hair and bad dialogue, and any nostalgia you might’ve accidentally had goes away when the “enforcement Droid” looks like it was stop-motion animated. Most people know who RoboCop is, but does anyone ever list it when they’re discussing classic action movies?

I welcome a RoboCop reboot. Bring on the half-man, half-machine. It will give me more material at parties as a cyborg myself. They should even bring back Bradley Whitford, star of the third movie. Cast Vin Diesel as RoboCop and sign Brett Ratner to direct. I don’t care and neither should anyone else. RoboCop sucks.
