Len Wiseman has signed on to direct Shell Game for Lakeshore Entertainment and Columbia Pictures.
Variety describes it as a science-fiction movie that follows a detective in the future investigating a black-market business. This isn’t ordinary black market, however, as it deals with immortality, leading to a moral conflict for the main character. That moral conflict? Wheat or rye. I know, I was underwhelmed too. Oh yeah, spoiler alert.
Also underwhelming is his experience as a director. So far he’s done the first two Underworld movies (he’s producing the third) and Live Free or Die Hard. There’s a wise man joke in there somewhere, but I can’t be bothered.
Wiseman, who is married to the beautiful and talented Kate Beckinsale, called Shell Game his “passion project” and something he’s wanted to do for the last five years. I’ll tell you what my passion project has been for the last five years. Stealing Kate Beckinsale from this guy. So far it isn’t going well…
As Cinema Blend pointed out, this movie sounds like Dark City. I’d probably throw in a little Minority Report too. And the Adventures of Pluto Nash. All classic cinema. Let’s hope he does each of them justice.
