For someone who runs a web site devoted to movies, I know it comes as a shock that I might be a nerd. Well, it’s true and here’s another reason why.
I used to play World of Warcraft.
I say that like I was an addict, because I was. And so is every other person who has ever played it. It’s really very addicting. The game sucks you in and by the time you look at the clock it’s next Tuesday.
I, like a lot of gamers, followed the game from Warcraft 1 through 3 and then into the massive multiplayer online version “World of Warcraft.” It’s certainly a fun game and I would be lying if I said I didn’t get into it.
A WoW movie was announced months ago, but no one had heard any news about it. Until Blizzard (the company who created the game) revealed more information at Blizzcon, a convention for everything Warcraft and more.
Turns out that a World of Warcraft movie is being made by Legendary Pictures, the same studio that produced 300 and Batman Begins, according to an article by IGN. Solid company to be in, but still not all that convincing. The studio has already promised a $100 million budget.
The movie won’t be a journey type of tale, like in Lord of the Rings. Instead, it will focus more on growing tensions between the races of the “World of Warcraft” universe and eventually culminate with some kind of battle, according to the article.
The movie is set for a 2009 release, but does not have a director named yet. No word on which rating they’re shooting for, but I would be incredibly shocked if they kept it R-rated. They just don’t want to throw out PG-13 and lose any fans this early.
In my opinion, the movie (like most video game to movie adaptations) will be lame and will only tap into a portion of an already limited/niche audience.
I couldn’t find any screenshots of me “pwning noobs,” so you just get the logo.
