It’s no surprise that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is a success, but it has been busy breaking records after being released yesterday.
Here are the records Harry Potter 5 has broken so far:
With $44.7 million in the first day, the movie scored the biggest Wednesday opening of all time. It surpassed Spider-Man 2’s $40.4 million, which held the record since June 30, 2004.
The midnight showings brought in $12 million, the most ever for a Wednesday opening.
The overall total makes the movie the fifth largest opening day of all time.
The opening numbers marked the second highest opening day of the summer, behind Spider-Man 3, which opening on a Friday with $59.8 million.
Phoenix is the biggest opening day for the studio (Warner Bros) ever. The spot was previously held by Matrix Reloaded.
The movie was also released on a record-breaking 91 Imax screens, and brought in $1.9 million, the most ever in any single day for the giant screen.
I’m sure I’ll be writing on Sunday about how it set even more weekend and 5-day records. With the seventh and final book coming out soon, “Potter frenzy” is in full swing. I will have a review up just as soon as I can get into a theater.
