“Lost” creator J.J. Abrams is producing a monster movie at Paramount that so far has been kept very secret. Right now it is being called “Cloverfield,” a fake title for production to safeguard its identity. We don’t know much about it, only that it is being shot entirely with hand-held cameras (think Blair Witch Project) and features a giant creature being referred to as “The Parasite.”
Today we learned from AICN that the director of the yet untitled movie is Matt Reeves, the creator of the TV show “Felicity” and director of The Pallbearer. Remember that movie? Neither do I.
The script was written by Drew Goddard, a writer on “Lost.” But we know absolutely nothing about the plot yet.
The teaser trailer played for the early screenings of Transformers and Cinematical has a description of the mysterious spot.
“We open with a bunch of teens partying. Apparently one of ‘em is leaving town tomorrow and everyone’s kind of bittersweet about it. Then they hear a giant ruckus and head outside to see a massive explosion in the distance. Out on the streets people are running around all panicky-like. Then the head of the Statue of Liberty lands in the middle of the street and the date of January 18, 2008, pops up.”
J.J. Abrams is also producing a prequel of all the Star Trek movies, cleverly titled Star Trek, for December ‘08.
