AICN has some pictures of the new posters for Beowulf.
Inspired by the 9th century poem, the film is about a warrior named Beowulf who must defeat Grendel, a monster who is terrorizing nearby villages. He must later fight Grendel’s mother, who starts a killing rampage for revenge. I think most of us had to read it in school.
Robert Zemeckis is the director of the movie, who is known for the Back to the Future trilogy, Polar Express, and his Oscar-winning direction of Forrest Gump. He’s also big on special effects, coming from a Spielberg school of film making. This movie, from what I’ve read, will be a combination of CGI and live-action. It will utilize the “performance capture” technology used in Polar Express and digitally converted to IMAX 3-D format. Very cool.

Pictured on the left is Ray Winstone, who will play the title character Beowulf. The middle is the monster Grendel, played by Crispin Glover (who you may remember as the 50’s George McFly in Back to the Future). And the right is Angelina Jolie, who plays Grendel’s mother.
The film also stars Anthony Hopkins as King Hrothgar, Robin Wright Penn as Queen Wealhtheow, Brendan Gleeson as Wiglaf, and John Malkovich as Unferth. That anonymous writer sure liked strange character names back in the day.
Beowulf is set for a November 16, 2007 release date.
