Ryan Gosling in ‘Lovely Bones’

Published by Jeff Leins on June 27, 2007

Earlier this month DreamWorks announced that Rachel Weisz would be starring in Peter Jackson’s next movie, The Lovely Bones. This was great news because it paired Oscar-winning director Jackson with another Oscar holder, Weisz.

Today the talent continues to build. Oscar-nominated Ryan Gosling will star opposite of Weisz in the film.

This is great news. He was only nominated for Half Nelson, but he’s still an amazing talent. He’s a young actor with only a few film credits so far, but is already being hailed as this generation’s “Most Likely To Succeed.” Gosling even gets Brando comparisons sometimes.

The story centers around Alice Sebold’s novel of the same name, about a girl who is murdered, but watches over her family and murderer from heaven. Gosling will play the girl’s father and Weisz will be her mother.

I went out and bought the book this weekend, but haven’t started it yet. The cover looks nice though. So I will dive into that soon so I can be that guy that says, “Oh, the book was better.”

The film begins filming in October in Pennsylvania and New Zealand. Gosling stars next in Lars and the Real Girl in the fall.
