On Monday I posted a picture from the new Dark Knight website which, at the time, was just a fancy logo and sadly the best part of my day.
I also forgot to mention that hidden in the HTML was the synopsis of the upcoming movie.
In “The Dark Knight,” Batman raises the stakes in his war on crime. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining criminal organizations that plague the city streets. The partnership proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a reign of chaos unleashed by a rising criminal mastermind known to the terrified citizens of Gotham as The Joker.
Now you can click on that logo and go to a new site.
IBelieveInHarveyDent.com
Which merely displays this picture:

Not much to it, I guess. Just a campaign poster for Harvey Dent, the district attorney in Gotham, who later becomes the villian Two Face in the Batman story.
But then they busted out with this.
It’s the same picture, but with a scribbled Joker face. The picture pixelates and reveals another picture underneath. And below that there is a place to put in your email address and a code to participate. Then an email is sent to you and you can put in coordinates to remove a pixel. Supposedly the new site is legit since it was registered before the other. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
Definitely an interesting marketing campaign. I’m definitely talking about it, and most other places are too. Especially because the speculation is that the image being slowly unmasked is the first official picture of the new Joker. By the way, The Dark Knight comes out in July 2008.
Update: First official picture of the Joker.
