DreamWorks has won the bidding war to make Peter Jackson’s next movie, an adaptation of the book “The Lovely Bones.” They have already given him at least $65 million, which is much different than for the effects-driven Lord of the Rings and King Kong films that everyone knows Peter Jackson for. This agreement also unites Spielberg and Jackson, which can only lead to quality.
The story is about a 14-year-old girl who is raped and killed, but stays to watch over her family and the killer. I haven’t read the book but it doesn’t seem like a comedy. The consensus I’m reading everywhere on the trusty Internet is that the book is very good. But I’m sure I could get the lowdown on it from my mom. I mean staff reader.
Jackson is an amazing director. I was actually in the minority that was glad he wasn’t making the upcoming Hobbit prequel (which Sam Raimi from Spider-Man is rumored to direct). I think he should be known for much more than following a bunch of hobbits around New Zealand and hopefully The Lovely Bones will be another Oscar-worthy film.
